Booking Your Second COVID-19 Vaccination
To develop an effective infection-fighting immune response to COVID-19, you need two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccines. To ensure maximum protection against COVID-19 and the Delta or Omicron variant, Ontarians should get their first and second doses, as well as their booster, as soon as they are eligible.
First Dose of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech:
If you received Pfizer or Moderna (mRNA vaccines) for your first vaccine, you may receive either mRNA vaccine to complete the vaccine series. Both vaccines are safe and effective and can be interchanged.
All individuals 18+ who received their first dose of an mRNA vaccine are now eligible to book their second dose appointment at least 28 days after the first dose.
Youth 12 to 17 (Born in 2009 or earlier):
Youth 12 to 17 are eligible to book their second dose appointment at least 28 days after their first dose.
Children 5 to 11 (Born in 2016 or earlier):
Children 5 to 11 are eligible to book their second dose appointment at least 8 weeks after their first dose.
First Dose of AstraZeneca:
If you received AstraZeneca, you are eligible for your second dose 8 weeks after your first dose. For your second dose you will be given either Moderna or Pfizer. Both are mRNA vaccines and can be safely combined with AstraZeneca for a complete vaccine series.
The Government of Ontario has released guidance that first and second doses of different COVID-19 Vaccines can be safely combined.
