Keeping Detailed Well Records

The most important person to look after your well is you. There are others that can help repair broken parts, test the quality of the water, interpret the water sample results etc. but it all has to begin with you.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • If your well is new start keeping detailed records right away, the well installer will provide you with a well water record which details the well installation.
  • If your well is existing, gather all the information you can about your well and keep it in a file.
  • If there isn’t any information then start keeping records right away.

If there is a well water record it would be a great start.

  • Keep this in a file and in the future record everything done involving the well.
  • Keep list of repairs, any upgrades,  or samples, tests, any changes in water colour, taste, smell, pressure etc.
  • Learn all you can about your well and the regulations that you should follow.

If you have any questions regarding your well you can contact the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit at 519-352-7270.
