How Can Your Well Water Become Contaminated?

Do you get your drinking water from a well?  Did you know?

Contaminants such as:

  • bacteria
  • parasites
  • viruses
  • nitrates
  • chemicals

Can enter through cracks in the wall of the well, through poorly fitted lids or other structural problems the well may have.

The best defence against bad water is to make sure you know your well system. Maintaining your drinking water system is very important.

Testing the water isn’t enough.  Take good care of the pipes, pumps, valves, storage tanks, meters and fittings.

Check your entire system from the water source to the tap. It is always best to stop a problem before it starts.

If you use a disinfectant, such as chlorine, in your water test it often. Make sure the proper amount is always in place.  Check your equipment regularly to make sure it works properly.
