Who We Are

The CK Public Health nutrition team has Nutritionists and Dietitians. They are registered experts with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. They team up with others in the community. Together, they improve food and nutrition for everyone. They focus on: 

  • Helping communities create nutritious food spaces 
  • Teaching people about food and nutrition 
  • Supporting people eat well at all ages 
  • Respecting all body sizes and shapes 


        What We Offer

        CK Public Health offers advice, training, and resources to community groups. Our services include: 


        Childcare Centres

        Childcare & Early Years Act

        Staff provide support to childcare providers inplanning and preparing foods to meet the food and drink requirements set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act:section42ofOnt.Reg.137/15.

        Programs

        Student Nutrition Program

        The CK Student Nutrition Program (CKSNP) is open to all students. The program provides food at breakfast or snack time. This helps students get the food they need to learn. CKSNP works with local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as community groups, volunteers, and teachers. The program is available in all schools and has over 10,000 students signed up.

        You're the Chef

        You're the Chef (YTC) is a hands-on cooking program. It teaches basic cooking and food handling skills. It helps to build the food literacy of students in grades 5-8. Training is available for school staff who are interested in running the program in their school.

        School Garden Program

        CK Public Health helps schools start or grow their gardens. Gardens help students learn more about food. They also give students a chance to learn outside and take part in school activities. Grant applications are sent to schools in April.

        Community Programs

        Local Food Programs

        CK Public Health supports different food programs: 

        • Gleaning program – People pick leftover crops from fields after the harvest and give them to those who need food.
        • Community Garden Program –People can grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
