Here are the bugs most likely to cause you food poisoning:
Campylobacter
- It is the most common cause of food poisoning.
- It is found in undercooked poultry, pork, raw milk and unchlorinated drinking water.
- I causes symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
Salmonella
- This is also a common bacteria associated with food poisoning.
- It is found in raw poultry, meats, raw milk, uncooked fruits and vegetables, sprouts and eggs.
- It causes symptoms of diarrhea, cramping, vomiting and fever.
Listeria
- This is found in unripen cheeses, cold cuts and unwashed produce.
- If you are pregnant or have a suppressed immune system, you are most at risk.
- It causes symptoms of nausea, muscle pain, vomiting and fever. In a few cases, it may lead to brain or blood infection, and even, death.
E.coli
- This is found in raw or undercooked beef, unwashed fruit and vegetables, as well as unpasteurized milk and apple cider.
- It causes symptoms of cramping, fever and vomiting. In extreme cases, kidney failure may occur.
Norovirus
- This is highly contagious and also very common.
- Food gets contaminated with norovirus by infected people.
- It causes symptoms of nausea, vomiting and fever.
