By this time of year, many parents and students are running out of ideas for the lunch box. Here are some tips to help you and your family refresh some of your lunch ideas.
Start out by:
- Plan ahead for the week
- Once a month, have your child make a list of foods he or she likes- download the lunch planner for ideas.

Try out these options:
- For sandwiches: try using different buns, wraps or bagels. Some choices might include: beans, salsa and cheese on a wrap or cut up chicken with mayonnaise, lettuce and cucumbers on a cheese bun.
- For Thermoses: Investing in a thermos to keep foods warm helps to expand lunch options. Try pasta, soups, casseroles, stir frys or meatballs.
- Pair whole grain crackers or pitas with egg or tuna salad or dips such as hummus.
- Make your own lunchable by using whole grain crackers, cheese and lean deli meats.
- Cold salads are a great option for the lunch box. Add cheese, seeds, chick peas and/or meat for protein.
- Try homemade pizzas made on pitas or English muffins
- Balance out the lunch with water or milk to drink.
