They may qualify for free Hepatitis B, Meningococcal and Human Papillomavirus vaccines that are offered FREE to grade 7 students in Chatham-Kent.

Nurses from the Public Health Unit visit each school and provide these vaccinations. They are not free from a Health Care Provider.

• • Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver caused by a virus. There is no cure. The vaccine is a series of two shots, four to six months apart. It is offered free to grade 7-8 students.
  • Meningococcal Disease is caused by bacteria. It can cause serious infections of the brain, spinal cord and blood. This vaccine is one shot.  It is offered free to grade 7-12 students. Students, who have not yet received the vaccine, remain eligible and are required to receive it.
  • Human Papillomavarius is virus that can cause diseases in the genital area and may develop into cancer.  The vaccine is a series of two (or three) shots offered free to all grade 7 students (boys and girls). Please call for eligibility criteria for those students not in Grade 7.
