Food Safety Tips for Grocery Shopping

Are you aware that mishandling of food while grocery shopping can also result in cross contamination and temperature abuse? This food may make you sick with symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.  Are you worried about you and your family getting sick? Don’t be! Remember some tips while buying groceries:

  • Buy groceries at the end of shopping.
  • Put raw meat, fish, and poultry in clear plastic bags to avoid leakage of meat juices into your reusable grocery bag.
  • Use separate bags for raw meats, produce, and other ready to eat foods.
  • Avoid keeping groceries in the trunk in summer months.
  • Store perishable food at 4°C or less and frozen food at -18°C or less  immediately after reaching home.

Don’y forget to wash your reusable bags frequently with hot soapy water. For more information, watch our food video “Grocery Shopping at the Supermarket” using this link  http://www.vimeo.com/22900058
