You’re Having a Baby!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! And now the journey begins. There is so much to learn before you bring your little one home.  You may have lots of questions about pregnancy, nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, labour, birth, breastfeeding, how to care for your new baby, what is available for young families in the community and more.

The Chatham-Kent Health Unit wants to help you on your journey to a healthy pregnancy and birth by connecting you to the information you need.

Prenatal Classes for residents of Chatham-Kent, provided free.

  • In-class: A series of 5 evening classes, offered monthly, covering:
    • Prenatal nutrition
    • Pregnancy discomforts
    • Prenatal tests
    • Labour and birth
    • Comfort measures
    • Medical interventions
    • Pain medications
    • Postpartum adjustment
    • Newborn procedures, characteristics, reflexes
    • Safety
    • Breastfeeding
  • On-line: access the program “Gift of Motherhood” from your home.  More information and a demonstration.

Understanding Your Baby Class

Communication starts at birth! Learn about how your baby communicates with you through states of awareness, behaviours and cues.  A one night, 2 hour class for pregnant couples and new parents. For dates, times and to register call 519.352.7270 x 2416.
